Temporary passenger lift for unique viewpoint at Marble Arch in London
To offer tourists in London a new attraction during corona time, the borough of Westminster has had Marble Arch Hill designed. This temporary hill made of scaffolding material offers a unique view of the historic Marble Arch and Hyde Park. To provide access for every visitor, the scaffolding company, PHD Access, approached RECO Lift Solutions. With our temporary lift installation, wheelchair users and people with walking difficulties can now reach the top of Marble Arch Hill.

Temporary lift installation for a temporary attraction
Marble Arch Hill was designed by the Dutch architectural firm MVRDV as a temporary installation. Therefore a temporary lift installation was chosen instead of a more permanent lift. Due to good cooperation on previous projects, PHD Access asked us to develop a lift installation for Marble Arch Hill as well.
Our RECO Plug and Play Extended passenger lift proved to be the perfect lift for this project. From the inside, the lift is indistinguishable from a permanent installation, while the lift can be installed much faster. In addition, the lift requires little space thanks to the small size of the modular lift shaft.
Temporary lift shaft with additional intermediate stop
To create a stopping point at the top of Marble Arch Hill, we integrated a modular lift shaft into the scaffolding structure. For safety purposes, we placed a third stop between the ground floor and the top of the hill. This ensures that the lift car is always accessible to emergency services in the event of an emergency. In cooperation with our colleagues from RECO Hoist Hire & Sales, we completed the temporary lift installation. Bureau Veritas UK then inspected the lift installation for safety.
